Record templates

Applying a preset set of records for Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and others, and seeing exactly what will change first.

Templates apply a known-good set of records in one step: Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho, FastMail, Shopify, Squarespace and others.

They exist because mail records in particular are long, exact, and easy to mistype — and a mistyped SPF record fails in a way nobody notices until mail starts bouncing a week later.

Nothing is applied until you have seen it

Choosing a template does not write anything. It shows you every record it will create, marked as add or replace, with the current value underneath where one already exists.

Read the replace rows. Those are the ones that change something you already have — most often an existing SPF record that the template would overwrite. If you already send mail through another service, you usually want to merge the two SPF records by hand rather than let one replace the other, because a domain may only have one.

After applying

The records are ordinary records. Edit, disable or delete them like anything else, and the change is published immediately.

Templates are available on every plan that includes them; the comparison table shows which.

When not to use one

If your setup is unusual — split mail, a subdomain delegation, an existing DKIM selector you need to keep — apply the template on a test zone first, or add the records by hand. A template is a shortcut for the common case, not a description of your case.
