What happens to an empty account

An account holding no DNS zones for six continuous months is terminated. What the warning email says, how to stop it, and why it cannot be undone.

An account with no zones is terminated after six months

If an account holds no DNS zones at all for six continuous months, we terminate it. Empty accounts cost us to keep, and are almost always someone who signed up, looked around, and moved on.

You get a month's notice

You get one email a month before, naming the date. The account still works normally when that arrives, and adding a single zone cancels it — the clock resets the moment there is a zone on the account, and you will not hear about it again.

Termination is permanent

It is not a suspension and it is not a pause. The account and your details are removed, it cannot be reopened, and there is nothing held back to restore.

Nothing of yours is lost in the sense of DNS, because an empty account has no zones or records on it to lose. What goes is the account itself.

Stopping it

Add a zone. That is the whole of it — see adding your first zone.

If you are deliberately keeping an account without zones, add one anyway, or tell support before the date on the email and we will note it.

Coming back afterwards

You can sign up again with the same email address. Termination frees it, so coming back later is an ordinary new sign-up — same address if you like. It will be a new account with nothing carried over from the old one.
